Denise Guerin, University of Minnesota Professor, Receives Louis S. Tregre Award from NCIDQWASHINGTON, DC--Professor Denise Guerin, Ph.D., a professor at the University of Minnesota and a noted researcher in the interior design field, was awarded the Louis S. Tregre Award from the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) at the organization's annual meeting recently. The award is given annually in memory of Louis S. Tregre, a founding director of NCIDQ, to recognize the contribution of outstanding volunteer service to advance NCIDQ's mission of public protection. "There was unanimous consent among the Board to select Denise as this year's Tregre award recipient," says Donna Vining, NCIDQ President. "Her commitment to the education of future professionals is beyond compare. She has been a tireless and passionate advocate for ensuring that those entering the profession are properly educated to be competent interior designers. Denise truly typifies the spirit of the Louis Tregre award, and we are grateful for her dedication." Guerin has been a contributing member to many of NCIDQ's programs over the last five years. Among other things, she has recently served the Council as a member of the panel of experts for the 2003 practice analysis. She has also served on the panel of experts to determine content for the national examination, has been a member of the Interior Design Experience Program (IDEP) Committee for three years and chaired the Certification Task Force. Guerin has also served as a liaison to the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC). "I'm extremely honored to receive the Louis Tregre Award," Guerin told her colleagues. "It's the wish of every educator to contribute to the practice of interior design. Certainly, we contribute as mentors and teachers, but it's wonderful to have the opportunity to contribute to the development of our practice in a direction that ensures its future. Today, I'm reminded of Louis Tregre, whose vision changed the practice into a profession that is valued today." NCIDQ is a federation of regulatory agencies in the United States and Canada, whose mission is to protect the public by identifying those individuals who are competent to practice interior design.
