Sandra Friend Elected NCIDQ PresidentApril 11, 2008 WASHINGTON, DC-Sandra Friend, an interior designer from Ashland, Oregon, was elected President of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification, Inc. (NCIDQ) for 2008. Friend brings to NCIDQ more than 24 years of interior design experience. Friend has served NCIDQ in many capacities beginning in 1999. She was elected to the Board of Directors in 2004 and became President-Elect in 2007. NCIDQ honored her volunteer work for the Council with the Louis S. Tregre Award in 2001. "As President, it is my unwritten charge to ensure that the NCIDQ exam continues to be the gold standard for determining competency to practice interior design," says Friend. "I am thrilled to take on this new role and look forward to helping the public understand the value of the NCIDQ Certificate holder in protecting their health, safety and welfare." In addition to her work with NCIDQ, Friend has served in ASID chapter leadership as well as on ASID national committees and was elected to ASID's College of Fellows in 2001. She has been passionately involved with interior design licensure legislation both in California, where she used to live, and Oregon, where she currently lives. Friend is an NCIDQ active Certificate holder. She holds a BA degree from Bucknell University and an Interior and Environmental Design degree from Otis College of Art and Design. Friend is principal of Interior Planning + Design, an interior and lighting design firm in Ashland, Oregon. NCIDQ® is an organization of regulatory boards and provincial associations in the United States and Canada whose core purpose is to protect the health, life safety and welfare of the public by establishing standards of competence in the practice of interior design.
